A  good housing makes all lot of difference in the art of underwater photography. One that is well balanced and allows easy access to essential controls, composition and comfort has been hard to come by for a very long time. The Seacam housing is a refinement of camera housings comprising of elegant precision, useful operating elements, and innovations, typical of German engineering. On first sight, the Seacam appeals; the sleek silver housing made of sea-water resistant aluminum, compressed and hardened to withstand the elements. The Seacam is so to speak an environmentally friendly housing, as its silver precision cast surface does not require varnish, solvent or fillers; better still it will look new after extended use in harsh conditions.

Beneath its surface, a plush textile fibre coating not only protects the camera, but in the event of a flood, I was told it should be able to absorb a cup of water. The housing comes with a leak alarm option. The handle is ergonomically shaped, lightweight for one hand operation and easy access to shutter release with thumb or index finger. Typical standard features include access to; manual/auto focus control, aperture, EV compensations, Auto focus lock, AF-select, function control, speed control, auto exposure, LCD light, function set/reset switch, zoom gear and of course the on/off switch. The housing is also equipped with dual connection to Nikonos sync chord.

Perhaps the innovation that stands out like a “sore thumb’, really, it stands out among the rest of the other housings is the option of the Seacam 45° sportfinder. This pioneering development of a unique swiveling finder enables camera with standard viewfinder such as the Nikon F90, F100, to achieve a viewfinder image to 1:1 of the film format. I have tested the viewfinder, the image quality is brilliant, and it is yet another plus factor environmentally. Especially in macro photography, the photographer has to get down low to view a subject through a conventional viewfinder. This often causes damage to the substratum unintentionally. With the 45° sportfinder, the photographer will just to look down to achieve the same perspective, eliminating the necessity to lie on the reef. This is another useful feature for ˝ and ˝ photography.

All Seacam ports are made of optically neutral hardened glass, polished to give optimum transmittance of light and image quality. The range is extensive from flat ports for 105mm, 60mm, 180mm, dome ports for 20mm, 18mm to the crisp 16mm fisheye port. Because, all Seacam housings are individually handmade, delivery upon firm order is between 4-6 weeks. Another great news is the manufacturer caters not only for owners of Nikon F5, F90, F100 but also for users of Minolta and Canon. Since the discovery of Seacam, I am slowly retiring my Nexuses. As stated, it is the Porsche of camera housings; it has a price tag to match. I am honored to be able to represent Seacam in the Asia Pacific. Michael AW

SEACAM silver -  ecologically superior, exquisitely beautiful, precision seal

silver, the new surface technology, makes it possible to do without any varnish due to an entirely new surface refinement. The sea-water resistant aluminum light metal precision-cast is doubly hardened and compressed. Additionally protected and sealed by hard eloxal, this surface withstands severest attacks by sea-water and mechanical use.

The scratch resistant and corrosion proof surface does not need any varnish, no solvents and no fillers. The SEACAM silver housing manages to do without those components and gets through roughest use - better than ever before. In a time of severe ecological damage it is a great matter of concern to declare our definite position in that respect and to introduce new, environmentally beneficial technologies.

The combination of elegance, innovation and precision opens up a new dimension in a symbiosis of state-of-the art underwater housings and autofocus reflex cameras. We ideally combine electronic and mechanic perfection with classical modern and ergonomic design. The SEACAM system has been designed for top performance in order to comply with the desires of most demanding professionals and committed photographers. Modern production technology are utilized in conjunction with hand finishing, making each Seacam housing a work of art.  The scratch resistant of the range of silver housing are corrosion proof and the surface does not need any varnish, nor solvents and no fillers. The SEACAM silver housing manages to do without those components and gets through roughest use - better than ever before. The double O-ring seal on all control shafts is essential for watertight integrity, as is the UV and chemically resistant quality of the materials used. A 3.5mm thick main O-ring sits in a precisely machined groove.  High-grade secured and spring-mounted quick-clasps which remain under tension, even under high water pressure, reliably lock the two halves of the housing - without any tools. Inside, your camera is protected by a black fibre coating.

All materials used have been chosen to reduce maintenance and guarantee a durability found exclusively in SEACAM metal underwater housings. In order to guarantee a maximum degree of safety in the long run, each part undergoes several function and pressure tests during the production.
